About Pangolino 💼

Pangolino is a Nigerian non-profit conservation organization for pangolins. To raise awareness, they use innovative communication methods (ie. the arts) to foster public and institutional support for pangolin conservation. Their collaborative research spans multiple fields, providing crucial insights into pangolin ecology, exploitation, and trade.

Project Objective 🌟

Currently, pangolins are the most illegally traded wild animal, yet are not often talked about. If the unawareness of the pangolins’ situation continues, the chances of pangolins entering extinction will only increase.

Pangolino wants to raise awareness about pangolins and to highlight their work in pangolin conservation on a wider, digital scale. Creating a fully functional website would help increase the credibility and public reach of the organization.

Connecting with the client

During the first few meetings with the client, we got to know more about the organization and the project’s goals - as well as having access to Pangolino’s existing demographics data and analytics. Afterwards, we narrowed down the main functions that Pangolino website had to have:

  1. To share their conservation work in Nigeria (they wanted to increase their reach to the local communities).
  2. Hosting educational resources about pangolins (ie. fun animal facts, quiz and downloadable booklets).
  3. Creating an “Art Gallery” (having a space where users can post and share photos of their pangolin art).

On the technical side, the client stated that it was important that the website was:

  1. Mobile optimization: Internet strength in most parts of southeastern Nigeria is weak. Most people connect to the internet using mobile phones.
  2. Website must have a low development and maintenance cost for the foreseeable future.
  3. Must have an easy-to-use content management system.
